Sirius Satellite Radio
Launch of Service/First Product Sale/VIP Party
Jackson, MS

Sirius Satellite Radio officially launched its service, and sold its first radio/receiver, in February of 2002.  We were asked to help with two key activities:  entertaining the invited guests, and documenting the first product sale on video.

To launch its satellite radio service, Sirius chose a location in Jackson, Mississippi, where the first satellite television systems were sold in 1994.  The festivities began with a tent party for 300 VIPs and invited guests, where we provided staging and logistics support.

That meant generators for power and heat, and a customized light and sound system to accommodate five country music acts, including Randy Travis, Tracy Lawrence, Tom T. Hall, Earl Scruggs and Rhonda Vincent and the Rage.  We also helped create a stage backdrop with an oversized in-dash radio – which “turned on” as the service went on the air during the official launch ceremony.

Our video crews recorded the evening event, then spent the next day documenting the first product sales at multiple retailer locations in Jackson.  The footage has been used in a variety of Sirius video productions for both internal and external audiences.
